Funding rates - a complex area, but as a rough guide if you will have 20 years service and have not yet made any investment, you can invest your age as a percentage of salary, eg approx 45% for a 45 year old. Alternatively use the Pensions Audit.

Type 1 schemes - you joined before 17 March 1987.

Type 2 schemes - the scheme predates 14 March 1989 AND you joined before 1 June 1989.

Type 3 schemes - scheme established after 14 March 1989, or, if begun earlier YOU did not join until after 1 June 1989.
