RSS

What is RSS?

RSS feeds allow you to see when websites have added any new content. With RSS (Really Simple Syndication), you can get the latest news headlines in one place, as soon as they are published, without having to actually use your internet browser to visit the websites you have subscribed to the feed from.

Simply put, the RSS feeds are a kind of webpage, designed to be read by computers rather than people. Developers can also use RSS feeds to pull Moneyweb’s content on to their websites. It's an easy way for you to be alerted when content that interests you appears on our site.

In order to subscribe to our RSS feeds, you’ll need something called a news reader. This is a piece of software that checks the feeds and lets you read any of the new stories or headlines that have been added, with a clickthrough to the full story on Moneyweb.

Moneyweb’s main daily news RSS feed delivers about 50 business-related news stories every day.

RSS feeds also allow for the delivery of Moneyweb’s daily market update podcasts (audio bulletins) to your computer which are produced twice daily. You can also subscribe to the feeds for the Moneyweb Power Hour and RSG Geldsake met Moneyweb in order to receive the interviews from our radio shows delivered to your RSS reader.

Getting an RSS reader

There are many different kinds of RSS readers. Some you can access through your browser (the latest version of Internet Explorer (version 7) and Firefox have RSS readers built in). Downloadable programs are also available. Other readers also exist on the internet (like Google Reader) – these allow you to sign in to your reader (like webmail), allowing you to catch up with your RSS feeds from any computer in the world.

Moneyweb suggests these RSS readers:

Built-in to your internet browser
Internet Explorer 7: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/ie7/tour/rss/
Mozilla Firefox: http://en.www.mozilla.com/en/firefox/livebookmarks.html

Downloadable progams (some of these may charge for the software):
